Character Profile
Name: Yato Kazahana
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Height: Short
Weight: Scrawny
Rank: Genin
Faction of Origin: Shinobi
Village: Kirigakure no Sato
Bloodline/Clan: Kazahana - Ice Release
Restricted Loan Technique: Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation (Technique)

Starting Equipment:
  • A holster of six kunai
  • A holster of three scrolls
  • A pouch of twenty senbon

Appearance:
Yato is short for his age, and very scrawny, meaning that he often gets cold in the chilly climates and battlefields he calls home. The boy has longer white hair, which he inherited from his parents, and sports thick rimmed glasses which often fog up as he changes from cold to warm temperatures. He typically wears an average Kirigakure shinobi vest, modified with a hood, higher collar, and thickly padded to provide insulation from harsh elements. A single large scroll lies across his back, secured in place by a holster which also holds his senbon and kunai.

History:
Before arriving in the Hidden Mist, Yato lived a quiet life with his family in a northern fishing village. While his parents made their living through simple means such as fishing and sewing, Yato was groomed from a young age for the life of a shinobi. His village was a small enclave of Kazahana clansmen, charged by their clan to send a cadre of prospective ninja to the Hidden Mist once a generation. Though Yato showed little skill in physical arts such as taijutsu or kenjutsu, he excelled in more academic fields, avidly researching the discipline of fuuinjutsu with passionate ferver. The young boy had always had a deep love of books, and seals were a natural extension of the written word. He also displayed a modicum of skill with basic Hyoton techniques, and so was an obvious choice to offer up as a Mist shinobi. Unfortunately, none of the other children in Yato’s generation displayed much skill, and so the Genin was shipped off to Kirigakure no Sato by himself, alone for the first time in his life, ready to face the big city with ambition and curiosity.

Housing:
Type: Archive
With the meager income of a Genin, Yato has rented the attic of a kindly elderly lady near Kirigakure's market district. While the space is small, damp, and old, the Genin has filled if from top to bottom with old used books, giving it a very homely feel, almost like a private library. A small fireplaces lies constantly lit, driving off the damp Mist Village chill, and the attic is sparsely furnished aside from the books, only an unmade bed, tea table, and a few cushions giving any evidence that anyone lives there.

Personality Traits:
  • Inquisitive
  • Curious
  • Optimistic
  • Hopeful
  • Kind
  • Academic
  • Calculating

Theme Song: Lilypichu - Song of Storms
Chakra Color: “Hyoton: Winter’s Arrival!”
Nindo: Knowledge is power.

Character Preferences:
  • Likes books, ramen, being warm, quiet, and the forest.
  • Dislikes loud people and places, being wet, cold food, and big cities.

Skills:
  • Fuuinjutsu: Specialist
  • Ninjutsu: Adept

Attributes:
  • Strength: Poor
  • Constitution: Poor
  • Stamina: Proficient
  • Reflex: Average
  • Coordination: Average
  • Wisdom: Proficient

Elements:
  • Wind Release
  • Water Release
  • Ice Release

Special Abilities:
Bookworm, Sealworm: Fairly solitary and reclusive by nature, Yato's only true friends thus far in life have been books, and by extension, the seals he was taught to use by his village's elders. Displaying a natural aptitude for Fuuinjutsu since he began his shinobi journey, Yato requires 50% less words or experience to learn Fuuinjutsu techniques.
Comfort in Cold: The Kazahana Genin is most comfortable in cold climates, surrounded by soft snow. When in a cold climate (such as a snowy area, or any area sufficiently chilly), Yato gains a minor advantage to Stamina until he reaches a normal temperature once again.

Flaws:
No Love for the Moist: Young Yato despises being wet. In his homeland, being wet pretty much meant being dead. As such, the Genin has great difficulty bringing himself to train or utilize Suiton techniques. Word count and experience for Suiton techniques is increased by 50%.
Four-eyed Weakling: Yato needs his glasses to see. If any scenario arises wherein he loses his glasses, he suffers a minor disadvantage to Wisdom until he can put them back on.

Might, Will, And Fate Points
  • Might: 0
  • Will: 2
  • Fate: 2

Techniques
Ninjutsu
Name: Hyoton: Winter's Arrival
Rank: D
Cost: D
Range: Mid
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release/Snow Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: Boar
Description:
The user of this jutsu can activate his or her innate ability to control water vapor and temperature, coalescing any nearby clouds and lowering their temperature. This results in a minor snowfall. Snow from this technique falls at the rate of six inches of snow per active round. For each extra rank for chakra cost used, the user can double the amount of snow per round. The maximum amount of snow created cannot exceed two feet per round. Once activated, the user can maintain the technique without continuing the Boar handsign.
This technique requires an upkeep equivalent to the amount of snow being created per turn, however, the user may elect to keep a gentle snowfall present for atmospheric effect for a negligible amount of chakra per round.
Drawbacks:
- This jutsu by itself cannot harm anyone or anything, unless the target happens to have an extremely severe snow allergy.

Name: Hyoton: Ice Senbon, Stage One
Rank: D
Cost: D
Range: Varies by use
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Offensive
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: None, basic temperature manipulation.
Description:
This technique hardens a given body of water into numerous senbon of solid ice. At the first stage, these senbon are six inches in length and five centimeters in diameter. Through this technique, the user may create one cubic metre's worth of senbon per use, provided there is a ready source of water available. It takes virtually no time for them to form, since the water is simply being separated into smaller sections. These weapons may be used for close combat or ranged attacks, and can withstand the force needed to puncture mild armor. They are as sharp as the average senbon.
Drawbacks:
  • Due to the user's chakra being the sole force holding the senbon in shape, as soon as the weapons leave the user's contact they begin to deteriorate. The senbon melt at a rate of 1/2 an inch per round.

Name: Hyoton: Vapour Manipulation
Rank: E
Cost: E
Range: N/A
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release, Snow Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: N/A
Description:
Early in their lives, all members of the Kazahana bloodline are taught how to manipulate the water particles found in air all over the world. Though not nearly as adept as the Terumi and their Boil Release, basic tasks related to the Hyoton and the Yuki-Onna are easily within the grasp of the Kazahana. By releasing a small amount of chakra into the air, or focusing chakra on a given point, the user of this technique is able to draw minute amounts of water to a given area. This allows for the retrieval of half a litre of water per post. Obviously, the amount of water vapour in the air is different in different locations. As such, areas of extreme heat like the Land of Wind reduce the amount of water by 50%. Areas like the Land of Water increase the amount by 50%. During rainfall or heavy mist, the amount of water collected is increased by 100%.
Drawbacks:
  • The very nature of this technique grants neither special abilities nor drawbacks. If a member of the Kazahana bloodline, one may perform this task with almost zero concentration or side effects.

Name: Hyoton: Forest Spirit
Rank: C
Cost: C
Range: Visible up to 200 meters during the day, or 500 meters at night.
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: Dragon
Description:
The reflective properties of ice are well known to any who have spent time in a frozen climate. Those who use the Hyoton are, for the most part, highly knowledgeable in the ways that light can refract through an appropriate surface. This technique utilizes those properties to create an aura of blinding light around a target. After performing the required hand seal, the user summons innumerable flakes of ice from the air around the intended recipient. As long as there is a viable source of light reaching the target, he or she is lit up like the the forest fairies of legend. Blazing yellow light springs into being around the recipient. The glare is extremely intense, and makes it fairly difficult to discern the smaller movements of the recipient, such as hand signs or melee strikes. The technique can be used in tangent with moonlight or candlelight. Differing shapes can also be created, but have no effect other than aesthetics. The target's vision will not be hindered in any significant way from the blinding glow. To prevent the tiny reflective particles from melting, a D rank amount of chakra is required every round.
Drawbacks:
  • Causes no harm whatsoever, and makes the target extremely noticeable.
  • Unnatural or complete darkness will render the technique unusable.
  • Katon techniques of one rank higher will disperse the technique if they pass within a meter of the target.

Name: Hyoton: Ice Slush Tentacles
Rank: B
Cost: B
Range: 30 meters
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Offensive
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: Bird, Dog, Horse
Description:
Slush is commonly regarded as a disgusting sludge, halfway between ice and water. However, when used as an offensive substance, it can have its advantages. An Ice Release user can form long tendrils of slush by expelling chakra from their palms. These tentacles can be shifted from complete water to complete ice within seconds, but their default form is a repulsive state halfway between the two. The appendages may be manipulated by the user as if they were living organisms. These tentacles may be created from thin air, or created from an existing body of water for a reduced C rank chakra cost. One use of the technique can create up to eight tentacles, roughly one foot thick at the base and tapering off towards the end. These can extend up to thirty meters. Another B rank expenditure can double the length or number of tentacles. Any additional chakra use past the initial application does not benefit from having an established base of water. This technique requires a B rank amount of chakra per round as upkeep.
Drawbacks:
  • None, aside from the obvious elemental weaknesses and chakra cost.

Name: Hyoton: Chilling Touch
Rank: C
Cost: C to activate, D to maintain (see description)
Range: 0"
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: Rat, Ox, Boar
Description: By focusing his chakra through a medium, an Ice Style shinobi can force all of the heat energy from an object, and drop it's temperature exponentially. The user forms the required handsigns, which begin the heat transfer process. Once the jutsu is activated, the hand signs are no longer required, but it takes a full post for the temperature of the target object to drop to an effective range. When the jutsu is complete, the temperature of the chosen object lies at around -75°C, and can freeze unprotected flesh almost instantly. The first time one is struck by chilling touch, the flesh freezes 1/8" deep. If the enhanced object is applied to an area for a prolonged period of time, the flesh will freeze at a rate of 1/16" per second.
Chilling Touch lasts until dispelled. It requires C rank chakra to activate and D rank chakra to maintain. Wounds caused by Chilling Touch can be healed in the same fashion as any frostbite wound.
Drawbacks:
- It is extremely difficult to kill someone with this technique. One would have to hold an enhanced object to an enemy's vital point for at least ten seconds to have a chance at ending their life. Instead, the point of this technique is to wear away at the opponent, leaving wounds open and raw, and slowly dropping their body temperature.
- To affect an object, the user must either be touching it directly, or have another means of manipulating it, such as chakra strings or a chakra receiver.
- This technique cannot be applied to living matter. It only affect inanimate objects such as weapons, armour, ect. It can affect wood, but not currently living wood.

Name: Hyoton: Frozen Ink Transformation
Rank: C
Cost: Varies
Range: Touch
Type: Ninjutsu/Fuuinjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: N/A
Description:
A technique devised by the elders of a far northern village, Frozen Ink Transformation allows a shinobi to craftily create and hide ink in snow covered climates. By lowering the temperature of normal, black ink to an abyssal degree, the ink freezes so completely that it becomes pure white, indistinguishable from normal snow. This occurs through a specific form of crystallization within the ink which allows jagged edges to catch light in such a way that the frozen particles reflect clear, white light.
To utilize Frozen Ink Transformation, the user must be in physical contact with the ink (through clothing or armor works fine). By releasing his or her chakra into the ink and concentrating, Hyoton energy turns the black ink into regular white snow. The chakra cost and amount of ink frozen are chosen at the time of use. A single use of Frozen Ink Transformation can create enough frozen ink to utilize a seal two ranks higher than the cost paid, to a minimum of D chakra cost. For example, in order to freeze and conceal enough ink to power an S rank seal, a B rank amount of chakra would be consumed, while a B rank amount of concealed ink would require a D rank amount of chakra invested.
Drawbacks:
  • Ink frozen through this technique is imbued with chakra, and as such can be differentiated from normal snow by a Sensory user of Adept rank or higher.
  • The snow-like ink created by this technique is much less conducive to seal creation than normal ink, despite its chakra laden nature. In order to utilize this ink, it must be returned to its natural state and colour, which can be done remotely by dispersing the Hyoton chakra via the Rat handsign.

Name: Hyoton: Heavenly Snow Manipulation
Rank: B
Cost: Varies
Range: Varies
Type: Ninjutsu
Sub-type: Offensive/Defensive/Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: Ice Release
Notation: Bloodline
Handsigns: N/A
Description:
Ice Release shinobi of sufficient mastery can achieve a state of total control over their medium, as evidenced by Heavenly Snow Manipulation. By expending Hyoton energy throughout an area, an Ice Style user can control the snow as if it were an extension of themselves. Rising, falling, solidifying, disintegrating, all are within the realm of control of a Heavenly Snow Manipulation user. This technique is akin to Gaara of the Sand’s control over his Sand Release, allowing simple manipulation, with individual techniques being differentiated from simply controlling the substance in question.
The user of this technique also has discretion over the strength of his or her manipulation, and the amount of chakra utilized. While the skills counts as a B rank technique for the purposes of training, individual uses may vary from E to A rank in skill and power. When using the technique, the shinobi must state what level of control they are exerting, and pay an equivalent chakra cost. The resulting manipulation is considered an equal rank in terms of strength, speed, and range. For example, simply making a gust of snow would require a negligible amount of chakra, as it would be incapable of harming another person or having any real effect on the in-game world. By comparison, a titanic avalanche of snow, capable of crushing bone and organ alike, would be closer to an A rank technique and require an equivalent amount of chakra expended.
Drawbacks:
  • This technique cannot create or destroy snow, only manipulate snow already present in one’s vicinity.
  • Clash ranks are equivalent to the rank of chakra utilized in the snow manipulation. In the aforementioned example of a simple gust of snow, an E rank amount of Katon chakra would be required to melt the snow, or E rank amount of Fuuton chakra to blow it away. Conversely, an A ranked snow avalanche would require an A ranked Katon technique to halt its progress.
  • This technique cannot be used to manifest an S rank amount of snow manipulation. Such prowess is beyond the scope of this technique, and would require a different skill altogether, or the registration of an individual technique.
Fuuinjutsu
Name: Constricting Embrace Four Symbol Seal
Rank: C
Cost: C
Range: Close
Type: Fuuinjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: N/A
Notation: Sealing Technique
Handsigns: N/A
Description:
A fairly simple seal conceived by Yato Kazahana of the Hidden Mist, this technique lays a small calligraphy symbol on a given location, roughly two meters in diameter. If any living thing (which possesses a chakra flow) enters the radius of the seal, it will activate. Four long tendrils of calligraphy snap out of the design and wrap themselves around the targets, holding them firm in place. These ink tentacles bind body, limbs, and head, holding them stationary until the seal is released or broken.
Drawbacks:
  • This technique does not bind a target’s mouth, meaning that techniques activated verbally, or through methods other than handsign, can still be used.
  • The Fuuinjutsu limbs can be broken by a technique of B rank power, regardless of type, as long as the explanation is sufficiently plausible. A Taijutsu user could kick their way out of it, a Katon user could burn the ink, etc. Epic Strength can also break the binds.
  • A Fuuinjutsu user of Specialist rank or above may dispel this seal with Fuuinjutsu: Kai for a C rank amount of chakra.

Name: Support Formation, Shogi Master’s Gaze
Rank: A
Cost: A
Range: Large
Type: Fuuinjutsu
Sub-type: Supplementary
Elemental Affinity: N/A
Notation: Sealing Technique
Handsigns: N/A
Description:
As an avid bookworm, intellectual, and academic, Shogi is a favorite pastime of the Mist’s Yato Kazahana. Inspired by the tactical nature of the game and its emphasis on consideration and situational awareness, the Genin began drafting plans for a seal to recreate that feeling on the field of battle. By expending a massive amount of chakra, the user is able to form a seal around his or herself. Tendrils of calligraphy stretch far into the distance in every direction, and a Shogi board composed of ink forms in front of the user at its center.
The emplaced seal is highly sensitive to chakra output, and can discern the whereabouts and general chakra reserves of any living things within the seal’s radius. These chakra signatures become pieces on the Shogi board before the user, with higher chakra reserves translating as more important Shogi pieces. Through experience, the user is also able to differentiate between familiar chakra signatures, which are oriented on the Shogi board to reflect that they are comrades of the user. Foreign or unknown chakra signatures are reversed, indicating that they are not allied with the user.
Through this seal and its resulting informational output, the user is able to monitor both location and relative strength within the formation’s radius, allowing the Fuuinjutsu user to monitor the battlefield as a Shogi player might monitor the playing board.
Drawbacks:
  • This technique is no replacement for a Sensory ninja’s abilities. It does not differentiate elemental differences, technique usage, intent, or any other such information. It displays solely location on the battlefield, and relative chakra reserve sizes.
  • In addition, Shogi Master’s Gaze requires an active output of chakra to pick up on combatants locations. This will not work on puppets or other lifeless constructs, and is ineffective at locating those utilizing the Chakra Suppression Technique.
