Yato is short for his age, and very scrawny, meaning that he often gets cold in the chilly climates and battlefields he calls home. The boy has longer white hair, which he inherited from his parents, and sports thick rimmed glasses which often fog up as he changes from cold to warm temperatures. He typically wears an average Kirigakure shinobi vest, modified with a hood, higher collar, and thickly padded to provide insulation from harsh elements. A single large scroll lies across his back, secured in place by a holster which also holds his senbon and kunai.
Before arriving in the Hidden Mist, Yato lived a quiet life with his family in a northern fishing village. While his parents made their living through simple means such as fishing and sewing, Yato was groomed from a young age for the life of a shinobi. His village was a small enclave of Kazahana clansmen, charged by their clan to send a cadre of prospective ninja to the Hidden Mist once a generation. Though Yato showed little skill in physical arts such as taijutsu or kenjutsu, he excelled in more academic fields, avidly researching the discipline of fuuinjutsu with passionate ferver. The young boy had always had a deep love of books, and seals were a natural extension of the written word. He also displayed a modicum of skill with basic Hyoton techniques, and so was an obvious choice to offer up as a Mist shinobi. Unfortunately, none of the other children in Yato’s generation displayed much skill, and so the Genin was shipped off to Kirigakure no Sato by himself, alone for the first time in his life, ready to face the big city with ambition and curiosity.
With the meager income of a Genin, Yato has rented the attic of a kindly elderly lady near Kirigakure's market district. While the space is small, damp, and old, the Genin has filled if from top to bottom with old used books, giving it a very homely feel, almost like a private library. A small fireplaces lies constantly lit, driving off the damp Mist Village chill, and the attic is sparsely furnished aside from the books, only an unmade bed, tea table, and a few cushions giving any evidence that anyone lives there.

Fairly solitary and reclusive by nature, Yato's only true friends thus far in life have been books, and by extension, the seals he was taught to use by his village's elders. Displaying a natural aptitude for Fuuinjutsu since he began his shinobi journey, Yato requires 50% less words or experience to learn Fuuinjutsu techniques.
Comfort in Cold:
The Kazahana Genin is most comfortable in cold climates, surrounded by soft snow. When in a cold climate (such as a snowy area, or any area sufficiently chilly), Yato gains a minor advantage to Stamina until he reaches a normal temperature once again.
No Love for the Moist:
Young Yato despises being wet. In his homeland, being wet pretty much meant being dead. As such, the Genin has great difficulty bringing himself to train or utilize Suiton techniques. Word count and experience for Suiton techniques is increased by 50%.
Yato needs his glasses to see. If any scenario arises wherein he loses his glasses, he suffers a minor disadvantage to Wisdom until he can put them back on.
