Shouri had just finished up a shift at the hospital when he decided to visit his favorite training ground. He pulled his surgical mask over his head, folding and tucking it away in the front pouch attached to his belt. The Jonin promptly flipped his hood up, a precaution to protect him from the light rain cascading over the village. He felt the extra weight of his clothes as they absorbed some of the water. It admittedly wasn't the best weather for training, but you couldn't choose the weather during a mission so he wouldn't choose weather for training either.

It wasn't long before the soaked ninja arrived at the training grounds. The area consisted of a narrow valley created by two mountains forming near each other. On either side of the valley there were discs lodged into the mountainsides. The discs formed large platforms for the shinobi to train on. These platforms varied in size but each was big enough to host it's own battle if need be, though they remained close enough for shinobi to move between them seamlessly during training. If there wasn't other shinobi using them, of course. This area was set up by the village to train in varying terrain. Each platform attempted to mimic a different biome, ranging from lush forests to rocky cliffs to sparse deserts. This training valley was created to allow shinobi become accustomed to battling anywhere.

Shouri loved it because of the variety. It took some of the monotony out of training. Instead of seeing the same things every day he could choose a new platform and it almost was as if he was in a whole new training grounds. Today, he wanted to hide under the canopy of trees. He chose the largest forest platform which was near the bottom of the valley. It was so massive that it actually formed a bridge between the bases of the mountains. This was known as the forest floor, due to it being lower than every other platform. It was made so large with such tall trees for the distinct purpose of breaking the fall of anyone unfortunate to tumble from one of the higher platforms. Once he had made his way there Shouri stood underneath the cover of the trees, unsure if he was alone in these woods.

Rin approached the training field with a disgruntled look on her face. Out of all the times to be raining, why today? The day she happened to try and go looking for someone. Who knows, maybe they wouldn't even come here, but, then again, who knew? It wasn't uncalled for that some people would come here, and her target would have to show up eventually, right?

Without hesitating, the genin moved to the forest section for cover. She always hated the rain anyways, and it'd be really dumb if she ended up catching a cold for something like this. It barely seemed worth it, but whatever, it was too late to turn back now. Besides, it wasn't like it was really possible to find someone without trying, right? And they should still be around. Her body shivered slightly as she glanced out towards the empty field from the shade of a nearby tree, dreading the boredom that would probably come from waiting for someone who might not even show up.

The training Shouri had planned for today was dangerous. He couldn't very well be firing off jutsu randomly into the forest without first ensuring he wouldn't hit an unsuspecting shinobi. As a Jonin Shouri had to be more responsible, and wouldn't be as easily forgiven if he caused an accident. With the jutsu he was planning to use today, such a thing could be fatal. Plus, he wanted to test how far he could go before that happened again. Now he had control, but for how long?

To take control of the situation and make sure nothing happened, he would have to make sure nobody was nearby. He hoped the training grounds were empty, but the area was big enough that if they stayed out of each other's way there shouldn't be any problems. He formed the Ram seal and closed his eyes, focusing his chakra to reach out and sense for others in the area. What he found was one other chakra signature around 80 meters away. The chakra signature was faint for it's distance, Shouri couldn't even be sure the signature was coming from a shinobi. Some civilians naturally had some chakra, so he couldn't be sure.

The Jonin decided to approach from above. If the other person in the forest was a shinobi the would likely be able to detect his approach, though a civilian wouldn't be so quick to check the trees. From branch to branch the Jonin hopped, his rank noted by his white flak jacket resting atop his slate grey hooded jacket. Soon he would approach, stopping in a crouch roughly 10 meters out atop a branch of a tall tree. He finally laid eyes on the owner of the chakra signature. It was a girl a bit younger than he was, though in the shinobi world age meant little. Luckly, chakra meant much more and this girl didn't possess much of it yet. He watched from a distance, wondering what she was doing all alone out here in the rain.

How long had it been since she had to keep watch like this? Oh well, it didn't matter in the end, did it? The kunoichi crouched down as the feint sound of leaves rattling caught her attention. While she couldn't pinpoint who it was or exactly where they were, Rin could tell that someone was probably close by in the trees. Who knew? Maybe her search hadn't been in vein after all? If nothing else, someone was around to see her and take some potential interest. All that mattered is whether or not it was the right prey.

Even someone as inexperienced as her could recognize that the other ninja was probably close, closer than they really needed to be. Which meant they might be curious about her as well, right? Maybe some local watch for troublemakers, or maybe it was any number of other ninja in the village. Either way, it was once again time to try pushing things into motion to force a move. Without shifting positions, Rin casually reached up and pulled the back of her hair over her right shoulder, pretending to try and ring it out as she exposed the curse mark on the back of her neck to anyone who might have been watching from above.

It was a normally innocent gesture, but, to someone else who bore the seal, there was a good chance it would at least raise a few questions. At least, that was her theory, if nothing else. Now what would they do next? Would they dismiss this new bit of knowledge and leave? Or would it stir up more of a confrontation? A newfound glimmer of hope flickered through her eyes. Could she have really gotten so lucky on a day like today?

The man's eyes widened, the brown speckled green of his eyes becoming more apparent with surprise. What? Is that.. No, he couldn't make assumptions. Shouri had impeccable eyesight, but sometimes there was more than what meets the eye. He would have to get closer and that was the end of that.

The Kumo Jonin slipped backwards off the branch catching himself and swinging toward the ground. He landed in a crouch with a soft thud. Rising to his feet the man began walking toward the girl. He threw his hand into the air waving it back and forth to signal his arrival. Now that he was closer he noticed the headband that he had missed, a clear sign that she was a ninja. Not a surprise, if that truly was what Shouri suspected. "Hi there, I'm Shouri. Not many people are dedicated enough to train in this weather. The fact that you're out here tells me you're on the path to being a fine shinobi." Shouri said to spark up a conversation. He had a kind smile on his face, the kind he might use with a patient when he first meets them. While what he said was true, Shouri hoped this would be a quick route to finding out what he truly wanted to know.

Rin turned around, sitting completely on the ground as she planted her right hand on the grass to support her weight as she leaned back slightly to face him. For a moment, her fingers twitched in anticipation, sure, he said that was his name but how could she really know for sure? Perhaps it would be best to 'test him', wouldn't it? Her initial thought was to throw a senbon and see for sure, but the thought quickly left her mind as she simply let her body fall backwards with a groan of frustration.

"Jeez, how boring!" The kunoichi murmured under her breath, holding her face for a moment before sitting back up. "Gah! I don't even have an excuse to do anything because why the heck would anyone ever lie about their name! Way to kill the fun, I was almost starting to enjoy our little game of 'cat and cat'." A slight sigh escaped the woman before she simply shrugged and shook her head. "Oh well, at least this makes things easier, even if I was hoping for... I dunno, just a bit... more...?"

A slight smile crossed her face as the genin faced Shouri directly. "The name's Rin Shisaku, consider yourself 'found'! I've been looking around for you for a good bit, even if it is fairly anticlimactic. Let me guess, you're probably curious, right?" Without hesitating, Rin pointed to the mark on the back of her neck with her thumb. "You have one of these, too, don't you? If so, I'm pretty sure my brother was the one who put it there. Am I wrong?"

Shouri was confused for a long moment. What was this girl going on about? Why would anyone lie about their own name, and why was that her first thought when he introduced himself. If he knew that she knew his name he may have withheld it a bit longer. Things only became more confusing as she continued. He ruined some game that they had apparently been playing. Was this girl some kind of mastermind, leading Shouri along on some game that he wasn't even aware of. Was it possible the one with the small chakra signature was capable of all this? Somehow, he knew that wasn't really it.

Things made more sense once she had finished talking. She introduced herself and he committed her name to his memory. Shortly after she showed the Jonin the back of her neck, revealing a very similar mark to his very own. He caught his breath. He didn't know anyone else had even been marked effectively. The amount of people he saw die in captivity was more than he saw in the line of duty as a shinobi. Each of them a failed curse mark attempt. And yet, she said her own brother was the one to do this? He never knew the name of the shinobi who captured him, but he would never forget his face. Now that she mentioned it, Shouri took the time to really look at her. Suddenly a chill came over him. He could see the man who held him captive for years when he looked at her. Between the mark and the uncanny resemblance, Shouri knew it was no coincidence.

"No, I don't believe you are wrong." So many questions raced through his mind. How her own brother could do this to her was one of the top contenders, but it wasn't the one to leave his mouth. "How did you know who I was to come looking for me?" He knew he wasn't that famous, so the girl must have heard his name somewhere. Or, was she here to attempt to reclaim him for her brother? Was it a family business? The curse mark gives great power, maybe he used it to turn his sister into his muscle? The thought of it caused Shouri's right hand to drift back to rest on the hilt of his katana. A small gesture, but a meaningful one.

Oh, so he was a bit nervous about everything, was he? It wasn't really much of a surprise. The things that man put people through to perfect his research tended to not be the most pleasant experiences in the world. Perhaps in being so ready to grab Shouri's attention she had gone too far? Either way, it didn't really matter too much now, did it? It wasn't like she could really change the past.

"You better be grateful for all the paperwork I had to dig through to find a solid lead." Rin answered earnestly before slowly getting back to her feet, stretching her arms into the air as she straightened her back for a moment. "A lot of stuff was just left behind, you know? Names, dates, blood types, that type-of stuff. All just super mundane, really, but sometimes you don't have much other choice, do you?"

Rin's eyes glanced back to the open field for a moment as the rain continued to fall. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to push things too far, it wasn't exactly like there was anyone who could save her if a random Jonin got angry and tried to spear her with a sharp weapon, although she could at least put up somewhat of a struggle if things came to that. "After digging through some paperwork, I figured I'd come here and ask around. And after I heard some whispers of your name, it seemed fair enough to assume there probably weren't too many Shouri's around this place. It was all just one big gamble, though.... If things didn't work out then so be it. I would just have to give up and see who else I could track down."

A deep breath escaped her as the ninja realized what had to come next. The part she was really dreading.... But, with the way things were headed, there wasn't really any way she could keep putting it off, could she? Fidgeting with her fingers for a moment, Rin put her hands together in front of her as she looked down at the ground.

"So... listen...." She reluctantly began. "I just want to say... you know.... I'm sorry, I guess... or something.... I don't know, I'm just-" Another huff of air escaped her. "... Yeah...."

Well, an apology wasn't what he expected out of the shinobi who captured him or his subordinates. Shouri's hand slowly drifted back to a more neutral position. He could tell by the discomfort that it brought the other ninja that she was genuine. He carefully mulled over the information presented to him before deciding how to move forward. The grim expression his face took as he reached for his sword cracked to reveal a smile. "There's nothing to be sorry for. We can't choose our family. Besides, it's not like you were the one to do this to me." He said attempting to be casual. Hopefully she took his words to heart. To Shouri, she wasn't responsible in the least.

"So, Rin, you found me. Now what?" The Jonin questioned. Shouri was a lighthearted person, not one to hold grudges or place blame. It showed character that she would apologize, but Shouri doubted that was the reason she hunted him down. It was honestly quite a feat, especially for someone who he only could assume was a Genin based on chakra levels alone. There was certainly more to strength than chakra levels, and she displayed a fair amount of strength of will and strength of character so far. If she could track down a Jonin in his own village, what else would she be capable of one day?

Was it really fine, though? Rin's body stiffened up in protest at the thought. After all the horrors and pain that so many people had went through, just some words of acknowledgement weren't enough. But, at the same time....

"I don't know how to do this." The ninja admitted, frankly. "I want to make things right somehow and do what I can, but this... it doesn't feel okay." How could she even explain how she felt right now? Or did it even matter? It probably didn't, actually. Shouri seemed fine, he seemed okay with how things were right now and there wasn't really a reason to push things further, was there? It would be so easy to just try to forget everything and move on, but, at the same time, just that one moment. The instant she mentioned why she was here. Even if she was just imagining things, it seemed to take him off-guard, if only for an instant. This wasn't over for him. Even if he didn't blame her, there was still more to be done here.

"What a pain!" Rin exclaimed, seemingly out of nowhere. "Like I'm supposed to know how to do something like this!? I really just don't get people, so all I have to do is show up and apologize and that's enough? I don't buy it." Suddenly, she turned to the side to aggressively point at Shouri to get his attention. "My family did terrible things to you, and now here I am about to get away with all of it. Doesn't that just tick you off? Doesn't it just seem so unfair right now?! Come on! Get angry! You should despise me right now! And then I'm supposed to show up and have to talk you down or make some meaningful gesture or something, right? Isn't that how things work?"

A sly smile crossed the woman's face. "Well, tough luck, because I guess I'm just going to get away with all of it, right? Me. All on my own. Because I've already convinced you it was all good so I could get out of everything, right?" The genin put her arms behind her head as she paced off to the side a few steps, not even sure, herself, what kind of outcome she was hoping for here. "I guess I really am just that clever and amazing, aren't I? Can't really hold it against you, though, I guess most people would have trouble really holding a grudge against someone like me, wouldn't they? So it's all just fine now, isn't it? Everything's solved? Not an inkling of distaste left?"

This conversation seemed to be a downward spiral of confusion for Shouri. He hadn't wanted the girl to feel bad about something she didn't even do, although her reaction made Shouri question whether she was involved in his capture. His eyebrows furrowed. Get away with what? Is she saying she had something to do with my capture after all? Shouri had too many questions and not enough answers. Talk could only get you so far, and it seemed they had reached that limit rather quickly. Shouri's voice was different when he spoke again, this time lacking any of the cushion he had given his words before.

"What are you going on about? I accepted your apology because I believed you had done nothing wrong. Now, I'm not so sure. You talk of getting away with something, and convincing me so you could get out of everything? What is it, exactly, that you got out of I wonder?" The Jonin's eyes narrowed as he spoke. The area seemed to crackle with intensity. A Jonin preparing for battle was comparable to a force of nature. Like a storm, there seemed to be a change in the feeling in the air before the clouds even form. "No. I suppose it would be irresponsible to just let you go now, without knowing who you really are, or what you're really here for."

There was only one way the Jonin knew of that he could be sure. Shouri was going to have to go on the offensive. Words were easy to manipulate. Shinobi were masters of deception and most of them could weave a web of lies in an instant. There was a truer form of communication for shinobi. It was battle. This woman, unless insanely powerful, would not be able to keep her chakra suppressed to such a low level and defend herself from a Jonin. If she was hiding her chakra levels, what else could she be hiding? It would be a grave mistake to let a powerful enemy wander off into the village. On the other hand, if she wasn't suppressing her chakra, then Shouri had little to worry about from her.

Not only chakra levels would be discovered through fighting. Shouri planned to figure out the intentions of this shinobi as well. If she was here to do him harm, or here in the name of peace, it would show in the way she fights. Shouri learned that combat is the great equalizer among shinobi. It allowed everyone to find a level playing field in which they can interact. It was the purpose of shinobi. "There's only one way I can find out the truth from you." The man admitted before showing her exactly what he meant. The Jonin snapped a side kick at Rin's torso, stepping in with his back foot first to grant the range necessary to hit the target who had paced off to the side. The first attack was a simple probe to determine how his opponent would react. I will get the truth, one way or another. he thought, watching his opponent at each step of the way.

In an instant, Rin's eye darted to the side just quick enough to see her opponent step into an attack! Putting her reflexes to the test, she pushed back off of the ground to move in the direction of the blow as the man's foot collided with the woman, her body flying backwards before tumbling end over end until she finally came to a stop a good meter away from the treeline, now standing directly in the rain. Her arms still crossed over the point of impact as she breathed a quick huff of relief, still staring at the attacker as she fought off a quickly forming smile.

While she had managed to avoid the worst of the attack, Shouri was still a Jonin from what she heard by asking around. It was probably fair to assume he was way stronger than she was, but that didn't matter, it just meant that she had to take him seriously. And it was raining, as well, which meant her poison wouldn't work, either, since the rain would just rinse it off of her weapons. But that wasn't an issue, all it meant was that if she did need it then he wouldn't expect it to come at him. While she wasn't injured yet, the situation definitely wasn't in her favor. But that was fine! This wasn't a battle that Rin ever expected to win, now that things were in motion her objective was clear to her!

Rin never intended to kill Shouri. And now that their encounter had started, she still didn't intend to kill him. All she intended to do, now, was to draw out his emotions and force him to confront them. Hopefully then he'd be able to truly accept his past. As futile as it might be, Rin had to fight this losing battle with everything she had, because by giving her all to defeat Shouri she would at least be able to attempt to fix her mistakes! It was a path that would never make sense to normal people, but, as ninja, if they at least fought with their bare emotions on the line, then surely their fists would ultimately understand eachother and, in doing so, they would both be able to truly understand their own feelings, too!

A quick cackle escaped her as Rin put her hands together and drew six senbon, three with each hand, and ran off to the Shouri's right side! "Shall you show me what you can do?!" She exclaimed as the kunoichi threw all six needles, three at a time, at her target's torso before speeding up slightly to break her line of sight with him by moving behind one of the trees of the forest, almost daring him to leave the cover to come fight him in the rain directly as she continued on her path.

She wasn't the fastest, but still she was able to mitigate the damage of the attack. It was a simple test of her skills. Since she passed, Shouri could step it up a notch. After recovering from her maneuver Rin drew senbon in each hand and took off running to Shouri's right side. She wanted to see what he could do? What he could really do wasn't even something he wanted to see. The man came back to a neutral standing position. He allowed his body language to communicate that he wasn't taking the threat of her senbon very seriously. She would have to try much harder than that to hit him.

Shouri predicted the path of the senbon thrown at him. The first set came straight at his torso. With ease the Jonin stepped backward allowing the senbon coming from the side to fly straight in front of him. Meanwhile his eyes stayed glued to his opponent, his hand hovering above the hilt of his sword until the moment the second set of senbon are released. The swordsman skillfully unsheathed half of his blade, using the exposed metal to deflect the senbon into the air. With the threat diminished Shouri had nothing left to do but go on the attack.

Rin was using the trees to break the line of sight. Could she be attempting to launch an ambush? Or maybe she was setting up a trap. The analytical shinobi knew it was best to proceed with caution. His fingers folded onto one another forming the Ram seal. He locked onto her chakra signature easily. She was too close without anyone else around to help cover her tracks, it was child's play for the sensory type shinobi. Once he had an idea of the path the girl was moving on, he changed his hand signs as well as his chakra flow. He made two quick seals and changed the nature of his chakra to lightning. He released the build up of Raiton chakra in the form of the False Darkness technique. A bolt of lightning ripped forth from the mouth of the cloud ninja annihilating everything in it's path. Shouri aimed the bolt near where Rin would have been though it was impossible to be perfectly accurate under the circumstances. He neither could see the target nor was he able to continue sensing her exact position as he prepared his jutsu. Instead he hoped the bolt would impact near her feet and force her to react, as well as clear him a path through the trees which were falling in tow of the blast. Shouri followed swiftly behind it, attempting to follow up on the chaos caused by his own jutsu.

The plan was simple! Rush out of his line of sight then feint by doubling back to approach from the other direction. If Shouri didn't come out on his own then at least Rin would be able to slip in close and catch him off-guard. Even if defeat was inevitable, she could at least try to fight smart and make him work for it. A smirk formed across her mouth before she suddenly flinched, jumping backwards as the sound of cracking wood and electricity surging forced her to move early! Even with her quick reaction, the blast of lightning just barely avoided grazing her as it shot by, clearing any obstacles in its way!

This guy... he really wasn't messing around, was he?!

No matter, after something like that he would have to be a bit drained, right? Which meant now was the time to strike! Changing course again, the kunoichi ran through the path of destruction. Rain sizzled across the burnt ground, steaming around her with each step as the tinge of static hung in the air as she quickly noticed her foe, rushing towards her on the same newly formed path with seemingly the exact same idea as she had.

"So much for the warm-up, now the real show begins!" Thinking fast, Rin slid forward slightly on her left foot before digging her right into the newly burnt ground before kicking her foot high above Shouri's head to fling a sudden mist of ashes at his face before her body twisted around, the genin getting as low to the ground as she could as she lunged forward off of her back foot to swing at Shouri's left ankle with a new set of three senbon held in the woman's right hand!

If he thought this fight was going to be a fair one on even footing, the jounin had another thing coming. In the hands of a dirty fighter like her, any part of the environment could be turned into a dangerous tool of manipulation! All she had to do was find just the right one to turn the tide of battle in her favor. They might just seem like cheap tricks to him, but, these were tools all too common to someone like Rin. The tools of someone all too used to fighting losing battles.

Shouri moved down the ashen path created by his jutsu swiftly. He noticed that the kunoichi hadn't been deterred by the show of force, and charged ahead just as boldly. Was this a show of sheer bravery or hidden strength? As the cloud ninja approach each other, Shouri noticed an abnormal movement. She was planning to attack. He leaned back into a fighting stance with his knees bent and arms ready to defend or attack.

He anticipated a kick, but when she dug her foot into the ashy soil rather than into his body he realized what was coming. He clenched the muscles in his face tightly closing his eyes. The ash hit him in his face and arm that he had raised in defense but Shouri was experienced enough to know there was another attack coming. He had no way to determine where his opponent would attack so the only move that made sense was to create distance. He attempted to dodge backwards, with his right arm with covering his face while his left arm crossed over his body to protect it. He felt cold steel press against his shins as he stepped backwards. The tips of the senbon raked across the skin of the man. Blood leaked through the slate grey pants he wore, though it was of little concern to the heavily scarred swordsman. He suffered worse injuries in training. "So, that's how you want to play it?" The man said with a surprising playfulness in his voice as he began to move in a circle around her.

Using the left hand defending his body he retrieved a few pellets from the pouch on his belt. He held them in between the the fingers of his left hand. Shouri turned his palm in a twisting motion toward Rin, releasing the pellets to scatter toward her. when they landed on the ground on each side of her they would release a large grey smoke screen. The dark and thick smoke would quickly leak from the smoke bombs and envelope the entire area of the forest. It would be all either of them could see. That is when Shouri would make his move. He concentrated his chakra to find hers once again forming the Ram seal, then he moved in at top speed on her location. Once the man was within striking distance he dropped low to avoid any counters, a level change was never a bad idea, then he thrust a kick upwards toward the center of the girl's chakra hoping to hit her in the gut.

Shouri wasn't done yet, after all, she had drawn blood. He extended his index and middle finger on each hand and crossed them. A mirror image of Shouri down to the injury would appear in a puff of smoke, hopefully while Rin was still dealing with the kick. The clone of Shouri formed the Ram seal to locate her and rushed to finish the attack, moving behind Rin and attempting to deliver a powerful knee to the back of the girl. Meanwhile the real Shouri formed the Ram seal once again sensing for the girl's chakra. He hoped his little combination move would prove to be a true test of her skills.

A quick flash of light flickered through Rin's eyes at her sudden attack. She didn't really expect that to work, but it somehow did. Yeah, maybe things wouldn't be so rough after all? Shouri wasn't a monster or something, he was just a human, same as anyone else. Yeah! Of course he was just another person! Why did she ever even begin to think otherwise? So what if he was a Jonin? What if his Jutsu was powerful? Ranks were just ranks, they didn't really matter, this was going to be the point where Rin was able to finally turn this whole thing around! It was all fine, as long as she pressed this opportunity everything would be perfectly okay.

Suddenly, the ninja threw a series of objects at the kunoichi's feet as she found herself surrounded by thick smoke without warning. In an instant, all her quickly gained confidence faded. What was the right move? Where should she go? If she tried to dash out then would he just use that chance to shoot her with one of those lightning blasts?! That would probably be way more than she could handle!

Damnit! While Rin didn't want to do it, her rush of desperation pushed her mind into a snap decision as her Curse Mark activated, forcing red glowing markings to span across her body, starting from her neck and expanding out before turning black as a rush of power coursed through her. The ninja's eyes opened, becoming dark with yellow pupils, before she suddenly felt the impact of Shouri's leg slamming into her stomach! A wheezing gasp escaped her at the sudden influx of pain, but with her newfound strength she was able to at least quickly regain her footing without leaving the ground more than an inch, sliding back slightly as she suddenly felt a presence coming from behind her.

"Too predictable!" Rin quickly shouted as the genin ducked low to the ground on all fours, quickly avoiding the knee attack before she swiftly twisted her wrist, pulling her body around as she put her full weight on both arms to lift herself up while using the sudden burst of momentum to deliver a vicious upside-down spinning kick to the back of her attacker to counter his second strike!

"You're fast," the kunoichi began, "but I'm not as slow as you think!"

Shouri held the Ram sign, a physical counterpart to the Jonin having a hold on her location able to sense her through the chakra sensing technique. He heard the girl call out through the thick smoke, as well as a quick flash of memory popping into his head. The new information that entered his mind was that she had ducked the clone's attack and launched a successful counter which had rendered the clone a puff of smoke. The smoke seemed a tad useless considering an entire smoke screen was still active. With his clone defeated it left Shouri able to focus solely on the chakra of the girl. What he discovered was just as he had anticipated.

Shouri had a plan from the beginning. It was why he used the chakra sensing technique so much throughout the fight, as well as why he had attacked with such seriousness. He wanted to draw the dark power out from the girl. He wanted to see the curse mark with his own eyes. And now what would happen? Shouri didn't like the looks of it from the feeling of her chakra. It seemed as if she was being consumed by the curse mark. It wasn't the same as when Shouri used it, much more ravaging to the girl's chakra network. The medical ninja suspected it had to do with the girl's lack of chakra reserves to begin with. It seemed the powerful chakra sealed inside the mark was too much for the girls own chakra, and she had only entered stage one. He wasn't sure how this would play out. Could she even maintain control?

Shouri drew his sword from his belt. The katana was firmly held in the swordsman's hands, though the sheath remained covering the blade. "You may be fast, but I won't even need to use the blade to beat you." Shouri said as he brandished the weapon in front of him, the smoke beginning to clear to the point visibility had returned. He gripped the hilt in his right hand as he closed the distance. The Jonin used footwork and distance to keep himself as a range that his sword was a barrier between them allowing for a counter or dodge. He moved with fluidity and grace, a definite difference from when he used his body as a weapon.
He started with a simple combination, swinging the sword from left to right and then top to bottom. The first strike was aimed to collide with the rib cage of the Stage 1 user. The second if left unanswered would come down on the left collar bone of his enemy. These strike didn't hold any of the damage dealing potential of a sword, though they did allow Shouri to move as he was trained to. Taijutsu wasn't his strong suit, but Kenjutsu was.

As the smoke cleared and Shouri drew his sheathed sword, Rin's body twitched in a rush of adrenaline. Her breathing became heavy and focused as air hissed out from between her teeth, her posture now hunched over slightly with her arms off to the side as she gazed out with a wild glare, vaguely calling forth the image of some cornered beast. Still composed, but just barely holding off their feral instincts.

I can't keep this going. I shouldn't have done this. Without Jin's aid, this form isn't sustainable. I've made my point. I should back out. I should take the fall. This fight needs to end soon or it'll become too risky.

I am perfect. I am amazing. I am beautiful. Nobody can match me. Everyone else is beneath me, aren't they?

... Where did those thoughts come from...?

Before she could pull herself together, she suddenly snapped back to reality as Shouri's weapon flew at her. The kunoichi's body practically moved on its own as she ducked down to avoid the first attack only for the second blow to smash squarely into her left shoulder! Her body recoiled slightly as she reflexively grabbed at the point of impact with her right hand. However, as she did so, Rin discretely pushed her palm against the band of poisons on her upper arm. Giving her a slight window of time to palm a vial before she responded to the attack.

As she was forced down gradually from the force of the hit, Rin pushed her weight into her feet to prepare herself for a powerful counter attack! As soon as the force of the weapon left her body, she pushed her weight off of her toes to launch herself into the air! Almost immediately, the short jump was followed by a flip forward as she moved towards her opponent with her right leg swinging straight down at his head with the force of Rin's entire body behind it! Her eyes widened with a newfound intensity as she launched the attack.

The pre-show was drawing to a close, it was almost time for the main event!

Within the chaos of battle Shouri felt at home. The shinobi felt that in this moment all his doubts were stripped away. He felt he could see the girl for who she was. Someone who was struggling with her newfound power, someone who felt like nobody in the world understood what she was going through. Except for Shouri, so of course she would track him down if she could. Pieces of reality's puzzle began to fall into place in those moments of intense fighting. Just as the swordsman landed a blow the cursed
kunoichi's counter followed immediately. Shouri was ready for her, with all his training and speed he was able to re-position his weapon in a defensive position cutting off the foot of the girl from the body of Shouri.

Or so he thought. When the powerful kick collided with the swordsman's sheath it was more than Shouri could handle. There was a moment in which Shouri held up, his sword clutched in his hands as he held the weight of the girl in the air. Her body was being covered by black markings, he knew all too well this was an indication of power, though he had no idea she would gain so much strength from stage 1. They locked eyes and Shouri could see the fires of intensity burning in them. The curse mark was beginning to take it's toll on her as well. She was suspended in the air for half of a moment, but it felt like an entire minute to the Jonin. It couldn't last forever. One of them had to give. Strength and gravity were on the side of the attacker, and so the intense force of her technique overwhelmed Shouri and forced his own sword back on him. The wooden sheath slammed into his face making the most contact along his forehead and cheek bone.

The Jonin allowed the force of the blow to knock him backwards, space was a necessary component for fighting with a sword such as his. There wasn't more than 2 meters between them when the blood trickled down Shouri's face. A quick look to his sword revealed blood splattered there as well. The blow from the sheath seemed to break the skin just above his eyebrow, blood flowed around it dripping down the side of his face. With a quick throw he sent his blade spinning above his head, the blood dismissed from the blade by gravity. He formed a quick set of two seals before catching the blade again in his right hand. He clutched the hilt of his blade tightly, focusing an intense stare in the direction of his opponent. Things were starting to get serious, it was about time he did too.

As soon as she landed, Rin gasped for air for a moment. That took way more out of her than she expected, but now wasn't the time to falter just yet! Each drop of rain beating down on her felt like it was individually weighing her down. Her shoulder felt like it was burning from the pain of the impact only now setting in. And yet she still found herself moving forward regardless. A smirk crossed the ninja's face as she straightened her posture and began to slowly walk forward.

Shouri was a good person. Even at this point, he still wasn't going all out. If he had unsheathed his sword before that attack he could have easily taken off her leg. He was a good man trying to hold back for the sake of his opponent. Unfortunately, for him, he was facing someone who wasn't nearly as good as he was. As she approached him, without warning, Rin suddenly darted forward, ready to unveil her true scheme!

Within an instant, she got within striking distance, raising her left arm to go in for a wide hooking blow before swiftly pulling back in a feint, trying desperately to disorient her target before she put her full weight on her left foot and lunged at Shouri again, this time flicking open the vial of poison in her right hand as she flung the liquid at his still bleeding shin wound from earlier!

The rain would wash away any poison on her weapons, this was true. But because of that fact, who would ever consider that she'd still use it anyways? If it hit, the numbing toxin would slow the man down. Not by a lot, but hopefully by just enough for Rin to keep up with his moves! In an instant, she would hopefully be able to turn her weakness into a strength. But, if this didn't work... if her attempt failed... then he would probably stop taking this lightly. If this didn't work then the tide of the battle would soon take a vicious turn. It was always going to be a gamble of a move. And Rin was prepared to risk this bet right here, right now!

The rain beat down on them both continuously as they fought. Splashes of water and quick clouds of ash kicked up with each of their movements. She began to move forward slowly, before dashing quickly to close the distance. Shouri's sheathed blade was in his hand by the time she dashed forward. She move to attack with her free hand but Shouri had no interest in defending. He knew he had the speed advantage and wanting to cut off the attack with a counter. He drove the tip of the sheath toward the girl's diaphragm, mimicking a stab.

When the girl's attack turned to a feint Shouri knew if the girl didn't abandon her plans, that he would land. The vial she had retrieved earlier was in the other hand, Shouri hadn't been sure what it was in the heat of battle but he could see it clearly as she attempted to use it on him. He knew it was likely poison, but a part of him didn't mind being poisoned. He knew he could treat himself afterward, but more importantly he wanted to see what the girl would do if she gained the upper-hand. He worried about the curse mark she possessed, the dark aura coming from her feeling stronger and stronger as the fight went on. He could see it affecting her personality already, he needed to know how it would impact her as it drove her further into the darkness.

He chose to make no move, and instead to continue with his counter. He stabbed forward with his sword with crushing intent. He wanted to take her breath away, he knew he would need time to mount his retreat. Wincing through the burn of liquid entering his wound he used his free hand to grab another small sphere from his pouch before immediately throwing it at the ground just after his strike would land. The bomb would release a dark billowing cloud of smoke covering the immediate battlefield yet again. He stepped backward on his good leg and turned on his heel, spinning into a crouch facing the opposite direction, sheathing his sword at the same time. His hands slipped directly into a tiger seal and the man rushed forward, though it was away from his opponent, with chakra enhanced speed. He stopped his dash by a tree still covered by the smoke screen and pressed his back against it putting the tree between them. A bead of sweat rolled down the Jonin's face. Had he made the right choice?

After the attack hit, Rin staggered backwards as the smokescreen quickly covered the area. Again... again with the smoke attacks. But at least this time, she was at least a little more prepared for things. An idea quickly came to mind as she formed three quick hand seals and activated a transformation, transforming her body into a version of herself where she didn't have the features of her curse mark. Sure, she couldn't see where her opponent was, but the opposite would be true, as well. And anyone familiar with using the curse seal would probably be aware of the downsides, as well. While she still had time left, anyone whose transformation ran out would generally be left in a pretty weakened state.

If she could just fool him for a moment then he'd definitely underestimate how much strength she had left. However, as the smoke cleared, a very different threat quickly came to mind as Rin realized that she didn't know where Shouri was hiding. It didn't take long for her mind to flash back to his powerful Lightning Jutsu from earlier.... If he was finally prepared to take things seriously, then it wouldn't be hard at all to launch an attack from any number of directions and wipe her out in an instant.

Shouri seemed to be a good man, someone who held back at every opportunity. But if that assessment was just a little off then things wouldn't end well. Doing her best to shove those thoughts out of her mind, Rin instead went with her best 'weakened' impression, gasping for air as she grabbed her right arm, as if the injury from before had caught up with her. "I... can't...." She breathed, slowly sitting down on the muddy ashes of the wet battlefield. "I... I give up. I can't beat you."

Transformation is often used to gather intelligence and pass unnoticed, or in combat, to confuse an enemy to gain an advantage. This transformation is physical in nature, meaning that the user takes the physical appearance of whatever they transform into. While transformed into another person, the user may reuse this ability to immediately change their appearance again, which allows them to continue to conceal their identity. The transformation is only as good as the user, meaning that the user must accurately transform themselves, as an observant opponent will notice minute flaws in an imperfect disguise. The moment Shouri's back hit the tree his arms raised into a single seal. He focused his chakra on searching outward looking for the familiar chakra signature of Rin. He located the signature within a moment and was locked onto her presence. He sensed something he wasn't expecting. A small use of chakra that any sensor was familiar with, the transformation jutsu. The Jonin thought he had a pretty good idea of what Rin had planned. It wasn't likely that she would really quit so soon after infecting him with a poison. Maybe it was a ploy to buy time while the poison kicked in. He certainly could feel it taking effect already. It must have been a trick of some kind, he decided. Two can play at that game he thought to himself as his fingers formed a new seal. An identical clone was formed within the sea of smoke. He mirrored Shouri perfectly from the wet clothes and hair to previous injuries and when the smoke cleared this would be the only Shouri in Rin's line of sight.

The real Shouri continued to use sensory jutsu from behind the tree, carefully watching the chakra of his enemy for fluctuations as well as movement that would expose his true position. Meanwhile the clone would approach the downed Rin, a look of concern on his face. Did the original go too far? he thought, Was I just sent to clean up the mess? Clone Shouri made his way to the girl. He looked down at her with sympathy, extending a helping hand to pull her to her feet, if she accepted. The real Shouri was still concealed from sight, watching them with his chakra and waiting for the perfect moment.

As the smoke cleared, Rin saw Shouri approach. Alright... her plan seemed to be working. This was her moment, all she had to do was get him close and take advantage of his kindness, then she'd have her advantage set. It would only take a moment, but she was determined to make the most out of that single moment that she could!

Without hesitation, she grabbed his arm as he tried to help her up. This was the time! No turning back! Without warning, she pulled on his limb, trying to get him close with her superior strength as the transformation faded in a poof of smoke, blinding both of them while Rin quickly pulled out a senbon hidden under her right foot with her toes just in time to deliver a sudden kick straight at the man's torso, her body rolling backwards as she used the attack to try and force the metal needle into his stomach as hard as possible!

Immediately, a feeling of dread shook through the girl's body. This seemed off, it was way too easy.... Was Shouri really this naiive? Or could this be some form of trap?

Description: The user transforms themselves into something else. This can be any object, including animals, plants, and other people. Even a properly disguised shinobi will give themselves away if they act in an aberrant manner.

Rin's plan went nearly perfectly, if it wasn't for the fact that it was a clone she was attacking, it would have went off without a hitch. The clone was manhandled by the girl and quickly dispersed with a puff of smoke with a senbon armed kick. The real Shouri was immediately privy to this knowledge, and was already aware of her location due to his sensory technique. He used this knowledge and the temporary smoke screen created by the clone as his chance for a counter.

The Jonin forced his poison laced muscles to work the best he could and he rushed the girl. He made sure to stay out of the range of her physical body when he struck, attempting a long range stab with the sheath of the blade. He knew that the girl's body was battered. That was a desperate measure she resorted to, and while she hasn't been what one would call a clean fighter, it was obvious she was nearing the end to this fight. Shouri wasn't in his best condition but he wasn't really injured. He could go blow for blow with this girl until her body couldn't stand it anymore. He wondered if that would be the course of this fight as he cautiously rushed in. It was the perfect blend of control and chaos. Distance to keep himself safe, yet still attacking with his weakened body instead of a long range ninjutsu that could have ended this fight from the shadows. This was how he would show her his intentions, and maybe learn about her's in the process.
