The Approved Techniques of Reo Hokori

Ninjutsu
Repeating Stone Cannon Drill
Name: Repeating Stone Cannon Drill

Lore/Flavor: After forming the required seals, the user channels earth chakra to form a fist sized, drill shaped projectile of hardened rock that launches from their open palm with a loud crack. Its spiralling action drills deep through hardened defenses, yet punches through weaker defenses with little in the way of cavitation or deformation, resulting in lesser damage in less heavily fortified foes. Sufficiently skilled users can fire multiple projectiles in immediate sequence, though the cost for doing so is steep.
Description: This technique does normal damage for its rank but it treats the target’s Constitution as 1 tier lower for the purposes of durability. Additionally, sequential shots may be fired, in the same post without repeating hand signs, up to a maximum total number equal to the number of tiers the user has in coordination. The cost for each shot must be paid for as if using any other technique multiple times in sequence.
Drawbacks: This technique does one rank less damage than normal. Additionally, using the repeating shot option is very chakra intensive, and the loud, supersonic crack ruins any hope of stealth.

Lore/Flavor: Reo experimented long and hard to come up with a way to utilize his family bloodline in close combat. He soon realized that channelling Jinton chakra through an object was a fool's errand. Thus, he began trying use the object as an anchor and channel the jinton chakra around its form. He discovered that this resulted in a usable technique, albeit with some significant drawbacks.
Description: A touched object is coated, in whole or part, by jinton chakra which is channelled just above its surface. This flow interacts with matter and energy just as its parent technique, detachment of the primitive world, would do. Unless consciously deactivated, the flow persists until the start of the user's next post - though this duration may be extended by paying the full price as upkeep.
Drawbacks: Due to being in such close proximity to high energy jinton chakra, standard objects disintegrate at the start of the post after which this technique is used upon them. Masterwork items, being generally more resilient and made to finer specifications, can tolerate this technique for 3 total posts per topic before disintegrating at the start of the user's next post. Furthermore, like its parent, this technique is slow to activate as it takes several moments for the jinton chakra to be carefully channelled around the chosen object. It also emits a very loud and constant noise the entire time this technique is active making stealth almost impossible. The cost remains very high. Finally, any object being used with this technique in contact with the user runs the risk of drawing on the user's chakra in an uncontrolled manner and backfiring if the user looses consciousness. In this case, it detonates in an S rank explosion with a radius of 5 feet and destroys the object around which the jinton chakra is channelled. This cannot (and would not!) be intentionally activated by the user as they will be caught in the radius. To avoid this detonation, the held object must be intentionally and carefully deactivated over the course of 3 seconds.

Per the approval of this character, I need to get the SA's and flaws sorted out within 2 weeks or so. Here's what I have so far. I tried to base things on what I've seen on the site recently and a little on traits from the previous iteration. Hopefully they mainly look good or only need minor tweaking. They are presented here in SA/flaw format, but will be broken out into respective sections of the character update post.

Handicapable: Reo can do hand seals with one hand
Handicapped: Using “Handicapable” reduces hand seal speed by one tier

Second Wind : Once per topic 20 CP may be regained
Distracted: After using “second wind,” a major disadvantage to wisdom is suffered for the rest of the topic

Work Smarter: Techniques of Reo’s specialty element have their cost reduced by one rank.  For non standard amounts calculate the cost by equivalent percentage, rounding up.
Not Harder: Any technique affected by “Work Smarter” does not have its rank raised by 1 as normal.

Deep Reserves: Once per topic, a major advantage to stamina may be gained for 5 posts
Exhaustion: when using “deep reserves,” Reo suffers a major disadvantage to Strength for the remainder of the topic.

Eidetic Memory: Reo can perfectly remember anything he sees or hears
Tip of the Tongue:  Reo can’t remember specific character names until he has interacted with them in at least 3 different topics.  This overrides Eidetic Memory.

I think you mean SP. We used to allow things like percentile-based Stamina refreshes, and the Uzumaki have a trait that allow them to do this. The highest we used to allow, however, was 10 percent of the chakra *spent*. If you would like to change it to this, you could probably be allowed it.

I'd prefer this to be from a certain trigger or purpose, not just whenever you like and for five posts. Five posts is actually a rather long time.

From there, everything else important will follow. He developed this fighting style based on that principle. It allows for freedom of motion and action in a way that more rigid styles do not and is well adapted towards working fluidly in a variety of circumstances. This form focuses on the mind, not in the more common form of focused intent, but rather by forcing the elevation of consciousness through the intensive forced sublimation of chakra energy. Through this method, the 8th alaya consciousness and akashic records can be glimpsed. The clouds of neurosis and ignorance clear allowing the clear light of the mind to shine unobstructed. Concepts of self and separateness fade as one acts (with varying degrees of success depending on one’s aptitude) as one with ultimate reality. The non-duality of body and mind are perceived, thus coordination is enhanced. Furthermore, the duality between themselves and their opponent is seen through as mere convention. Drawbacks: Due to its forced nature, the transition back to normal consciousness can be rough as a flood of emotions comes back. This can be rather disorienting. Also, this style doesn't do anything to boost the user's strength or resilience, leaving the user rather fragile and potentially toothless. If the user has less than epic stamina, they suffer an accumulative minor disadvantage to stamina for each post using this technique due to the instability of their foundation. Finally, the user must be trained in the meditation techniques of the Hokori clan in order to have conditioned their channels appropriately to use this style.

Drawbacks: If the target has 20 or less durability remaining, then this technique does damage as if it were 2 ranks lower and does not apply the constitution reducing effect. Additionally, using the repeating shot option is very chakra intensive, and the loud, supersonic crack ruins any hope of stealth.
This should cost more or deal less damage. It's worth an A-rank on its own without the debuff, just from its damage, and it also debuffs Constitution. The conditional drawback is unlikely to matter in most applications of the technique.

Posts for degradation should not need to be consecutive, if that's going to be a drawback. You should also note what "go out of control" actually means.

Thanks for the feedback. I replaced the conditional drawback on the first one with an overall drop in damage which seems thematically appropriate and simpler, as well as in line with your balancing suggestion. Does this look better?

For the second, I removed the consecutive clause as you pointed out that could lead to cheesing the drawback. I also defined what and when out of control look like.

Masterwork items, being generally more resilient and made to finer specifications, can tolerate this technique for 3 total posts per topic before disintegrating at the start of the user's next post. Furthermore, like its parent, this technique is slow to activate as it takes several moments for the jinton chakra to be carefully channelled around the chosen object. It also emits a very loud and constant noise the entire time this technique is active making stealth almost impossible. The cost remains very high. Finally, any object being used with this technique in contact with the user runs the risk of drawing on the user's chakra in an uncontrolled manner and backfiring if the user looses consciousness. In this case, it detonates in an S rank explosion with a radius of 5 feet and destroys the object around which the jinton chakra is channelled. This cannot (and would not!) be intentionally activated by the user as they will be caught in the radius. To avoid this detonation, the held object must be intentionally and carefully deactivated over the course of 3 seconds.

Also, I think I'm ready to pick my "SA w/o a Flaw" I remember something similar that was appealing back in the trait system and I've seen it in use since the reboot so hopefully this looks ok:

Bedrock Chakra: Reo's Earth Release has greatly increased in density and resilience, becoming both harder to disrupt and more dangerous to his opponents. Damage from Earth Release is increased by 5 additional Damage and it now clashes equally with Lightning Release techniques.

Sorry for the delay, I thought a mod was gonna check this one. The custom tech seems fine, the SA does not, It’s basically 2 SA’s in 1. I’m pretty sure I denied this a few weeks ago from someone else, could you link me the approved char app that has a similar SA? I tried to look for it but im blind lol
