As a part of this update, we have tweaked attributes slightly. The canon comparisons are undergoing a change from passive, constant examples (I.e., Proficient strength is equal to X character at all times), to specific examples and scenes (I.e., X character when doing Y specific action).

More importantly, we have adjusted two stats. Agility is now going to be known as Reflexes, while Dexterity is going to be known as Coordination. It is our hopes that this will help clarify at a glance what each stat does. For further clarification (and with some slight adjustments), here is what each of these stats governs.

Reflexes constitute speed, reflexes, and reaction time. In a sense, it is how fast you are.

Coordination constitutes fine motor control, changing directions, complex movements, wielding weapons. In a sense, it is how well you move and how well you control your speed.

Your hand-seal speed will be similar to tracking. Just like tracking, which is the higher of your dex/agi (or now your reflexes/coo), your hand-seals will be the lower of your ref/coo.

This also includes a change to hand-seal speed, which is similar to how tracking works. Because of this, we will allow people to redistribute their CP into or out of Reflexes and Coordination, if desired.

As a part of this update, a full two weeks later, Staff has procedurally moved through a majority of the rules, updating the formatting and rectifying errors where they existed.

Additionally, banking and the Ninjutsu Fighting Style and Holding-Door Mind Transmission (before occasionally referred to as the Mind Reading Technique; listed on the Techniques page) have all received either overhauls or updates.

The different levels of bank now alter the length of the 48-hour rule rather than adding to it, and the amount that a bank's protection diminishes by is now streamlined. The Ninjutsu Fighting Style now provides an effective bonus to the Attribute used to determine the number and speed of hand seals that a character can perform at the Major and Specialist ranks. Holding-Door Mind Transmission now has outlined rules.

Note here that, since we have progressed through all updates to the Unranked and Re-ranked Techniques page, everyone should check to make sure they know which techniques are where (so that we all know what our characters can and cannot do, and what things they might be able to do know that we didn't previously know about).

Uh, as always, more updates are to come. There are various bits of rules here-and-there that are incomplete; if anything needs clarification, feel free to ask.

Given the fact that the Chuunin Exams are right around the corner, staff has reviewed just what we wanted to do about ranking up! Previously, 1000 CP was the award, however in hindsight that seems like it might not be as good for some, while it is far too good for others. We've changed what it means to rank up in TNRPG!

Here it is described what changes there are, but as a short summary - you can choose to either set your CP to the minimum for the rank you are going to (Chuunin, ANBU, or Kage) or you can choose to add a unique Special Ability - without needing a Flaw to accompany it. Alternatively, you can choose to remove an existing Flaw from your character.

You may be wondering if the exclusion of Jounin is an oversight. It isn't! Jounin rank returns a specific set of perks that help them achieve more CP - teaching a team as an official sensei allows you to gain more CP per post (ah, reminds one of being a Genin again). The exclusion of Jounin also coincides with wanting to keep perks in line with 2k CP thresholds. Jounin are a bit of an oddity in that they start with 7k CP, which is only 1k away from Chuunin or ANBU. It feels an odd milestone, especially when they also get the opportunities their rank naturally affords them.

With this change, you may add Special Abilities or remove Flaws from existing characters for ranks already achieved (or started with, in I believe all cases).

A change has been made to Fame and Infamy rewards. They were previously seen as perhaps not very inviting, especially where the CP rewards were concerned at high levels of Fame/Infamy. The total changes may be found here but the summary is that there is now a system for spending Fame or Infamy for Character Points in a more desirable fashion, as well as revamped rewards throughout for both. There may be future changes in how we handle Fame and Infamy in general, depending on how this works out.

As a part of this update, a full two weeks month later, Staff have finally gotten through to the Price List (which is now the Equipment and Materials thread).

Prices on many items are updated, some items have been re-named (because we're not Dungeons and Dragons, we're Naruto), and the lists as a whole have been reorganised. The categories are listed by order of relevance (generally; no guarantees), and the items are ordered alphabetically.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hello everyone,

Staff has updated the Hyuuga Clan to fit our current system better as well as add some neat little things while removing some unnecessary drawbacks that held the clan back immensely. Along with the recent rework and update to the clan, we as well repolished the template and added some neat gifs!

The updated hyuuga clan can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=346&t=14254. We hope you guys are excited as we are of the clan rework! Below in spoiler, you will find a tl'dr of what has exactly been altered to the clan. In addition, we have created a 'news and patch notes' tab on discord, we'll try to use this extensively alongside our news and updates forum.

Hyuuga clan patch notes tl'dr;

Byakugan now gains tracking to reflex and precognition bonuses, increases depending on level

Clarified that hyuuga shinobi can stack stamina debuffs with other techs that do so, previously people were confused that they couldn't when they technically could.

Opponents must now possess a base wisdom of a masterful (down from epic) to know about a hyuuga's blind spot, alongside that the opponent requires masterful coordination to strike said blind spot.
  • 1-15 tenketsu points stamina debuff increased to 5 turns (up from 3)
  • 16-31 tenketsu points stamina debuff increased to 5 turns (up from 3)
  • 64-127 tenketsu points stamina debuff increased to a tier disadvantage (up from major) turns increased to 5 (up from 3)
  • 128 -360 tenketsu points stamina debuff increased to a tier + minor disadvantage (up from 1 tier)

Byakugan level 1 now requires 12 handseals to activate

Byakugan level 2 now requires one handseal to activate

Byakugan no longer fails to make the difference between a human and a dog when chakra output is at or exceeds 90%

We have decided to slightly alter the RP cost of the nine bijuu. Rather than cost 10 RP as they did previously, they now cost 15 RP. This was done after re-examining how valuable the vast number of perks a bijuu provides its hosts were for one of the more middle-priced restricted loan items. Now, they have a similar cost to some of the stronger abilities, such as Flying Thunder God, Edo Tensei, etc.

Hello everyone. We at TNRPG are excited to bring you TNRPG 3.0, the biggest patch and set of updates since the restart, in what is definitely the largest individual set of changes we have implemented in over a year, leaving the restart aside. Many, many systems have been tweaked and changed, so I encourage everyone to read the rules section fully, but we will provide comprehensive patch notes here for reference.

In addition, with these changes, everyone may completely reset and resend their CP, since we understand things have greatly changed. If you are in a combat topic and choose to reset your CP, your CP will reset at the beginning of your next topic.

Uniquely, this reset is in character! Those who choose to reset are aware, in character, that something about them has changed. Those with Legendary or higher Wisdom, or those with the Buddhism Fighting Style, are aware of some kind of disturbance rippling through the world, which seems connected with some characters' abrupt changes.

Now, onto the changes!
  • A brand new weather system! We hope this will help the world of TNRPG feel more alive. We're currently working on a custom widget to display the weather, so please give us your patience while it is being constructed. The weather system will not go into effect until the weather widget is completed, so be on the lookout for its arrival!
  • We are opening three Chuunin slots per village. It is at Kage discretion on how to utilize these spots, so ask them before registering (they may want to fill the three open slots solely with promotions of current genin). Kage, of course, may promote more than three total chuunin, but once a village has three total chuunin, registrations for them for that village will be closed.
  • Additionally, we will be closing Konohagakure on account of its massive popularity, which has resulted in it dwarfing other villages in size. However, we are aware of at least one Konohagakure currently mid-creation, so we will leave Konohagakure slots open for 48 hours before the village is closed, to allow anyone to finish their work.
  • We have created a calendar of holidays on which we will give rewards. These holidays also exist in-character, so feel free to celebrate them!
  • We have added a new rank, called Tokubetsu Jounin. This rank begins at 7,000 CP, and is higher than Chuunin but lower than Jounin. You can read about it here.
  • All ranks above Tokubetsu Jounin had their starting CP values increased by 1,000, meaning everyone of jounin rank and above may claim 1,000 CP to update what their starting totals would have been.
  • Tokubetsu Jounin gain a MWF point for ranking up, meaning everyone of jounin rank and above my claim a MWF point.
  • We have created a codified system on how to unseal Fuuinjutsu seals. Read about it here.
  • We are removing all reductions to chakra costs. All fighting styles have had their reductions to costs removed, and replaced with other benefits (generally an amount of "free" chakra set aside for techniques of that type). Anyone with SAs or abilities involving the reduction of the cost of a technique will need to replace it with a new SA, or they may remove the SA and the accompanying flaw.
  • We have completely overhauled Stamina. Instead of jutsu having a cost based on the rank of your Stamina attribute, your attribute gives you an amount of Stamina Points, and techniques cost fixed amounts of Stamina Points. You can read about the new Stamina system here.
  • We have changed the Precognition system of Wisdom. We have reduced when and how many Precognition "dodges" that players receive. You can read about the Wisdom changes here.
  • We have given more concrete examples of the various tiers of different stats in use, including images! Take a peak here.
  • We have buffed Constitution by giving it a new "Durability" system! Take a peak here.
  • We have changed several Fighting Styles, look at the revamped Fighting Styles here.
  • Below, for your convenience, is a list of Fighting Style changes:
    • Removed Buddhism's Stamina Advantage perk.
    • Added a Stamina Point bonus to Buddhism for Buddhist techniques.
    • Removed the Bukijutsu cost reduction perks.
    • Slightly increased the stats Bukijutsu gives, to balance out losing the cost reduction.
    • Altered Fuuinjutsu's bonuses to be in-line with the proposed Unsealing changes.
    • Edited Genjutsu to make it utilize Wisdom offensively, to help buff Wisdom in case we nerf precognition.
    • Removed Ijutsu's cost reduction perk.
    • Granted to Ijutsu a Stamina Points pool for Ijutsu techniques.
    • Granted Ijutsu a Coordination buff when dealing with vital spots of attack.
    • Removed Kenjutsu's cost reduction perk.
    • Increased the amount of swords received to balance out the nerf.
    • Increased the durability of their signature sword to balance out the nerf.
    • Removed Kuchiyose's stamina buffs.
    • Added "Partnered Summon" to Kuchiyose, to balance out the nerf.
    • Kugutsu is unchanged.
    • Kyujutsu received a slight Coordination buff.
    • Removed Ninjutsu's Stamina Advantage.
    • Removed Ninjutsu's rank reduction perk.
    • Added to Ninjutsu a Stamina Points pool for Ninjutsu techniques.
    • Sensory received no changes.
    • Taijutsu completely revamped.
  • We have a new optional promotion system, which you can look at here.
  • We have expanded upon the Organization System with a new War System, which you can view here.
  • In the coming days, we will be releasing several new options for the Restricted Loan Technique list, as well as adding a brand new Sage Mode system, so be on the lookout for those.

Hello,

This is a relatively minor update affecting few people for the moment, but Multiple Shadow Clones has been changed to reflect the new Stamina system. We struggled with this technique in the past, as it was felt its lower end was too weak and the higher end was much too strong. We've modified it to still be vastly superior to the Shadow Clone technique and still a very worthwhile technique, but not quite as strong as its previous iteration. You can check it out here.

We have made some exciting new changes to the Restricted List, in an effort to get more techniques into the hands of you players! This event comes with the introduction of a new system, and an expansion of the Restricted List to include new objects for players to take. Read on below:

Restricted abilities and items are now classified in one of three ways – as a certain Status, a special Technique, or an incredible Item. Over the course of their lives, characters may obtain these Restricted abilities, whether through Loan System, through the Legendary requirement, or simply by acquiring them from others In Character.

One of a player’s characters (sometimes called a Main, and will be referred to as such hereafter in the topic) will receive four potential “slots” for these abilities – a Status, Technique, Item, and a Wild slot. Most of the slots are self-explanatory, filled with one ability from each category, but the Wild slot is different. It can be filled with an ability from any category. A player’s other characters (sometimes referred to as Alternate Characters or just Alts) will have only the Status, Technique, and Item slots – they do not receive a Wild slot (nor, as explained in the Draft Loan topic, a Draft pick).

In looking at the War System, it has come to our attention that the price of a Unit was far overpriced in relation to how much a village actually makes in a month. In light of that, we've dropped the costs of units by half. You can see the change listed in the War System Topic.
