Scarce rain droplets hit the delicate leaves on the trees within Crescendo Park. This light shower had begun in the morning and continued to seem like it was ever so close to letting up. Sora had left his home and begun walking through the park, hoping he would be able to enjoy a clear day outside, but was mostly content with what he got instead. The chuunin exams were occurring at that very moment and he knew there was a responsibility to his village to show up and root for his fellow students. Even so though, he didn’t feel quite like he belonged there. As if the location itself was reserved for the elite. Perhaps one day he would show up for his own test, but he didn’t want to go until he was ready to win. He hadn’t honestly thought about becoming a chuunin before, until the exam date was announced. It had been so recent that he had become a genin after all! Finally he had freedom to do what he wished, so suddenly gaining the responsibility of a chuunin wasn’t something that he wished for at the moment. Sora would sit on a lone bench and simply enjoy the light mist fall on his face. There was something nice to be found in this as well.

The soft touch of rainfall dripping down into the village was all too fitting. Normally when it happened, it was by design, a byproduct of Saizo's technique that he used to ensure safety of his village. Without it, the land was not known for frequent downpours. The sky's natural crying felt symbolic-- each drop of rain was a tear that cascaded down the cheek of Kemurigakure and her people. The light amount of rainfall fit into it too; many still didn't know that they had reason to mourn.

It had not yet been announced that the Kemurikage had passed on to the next world, nor had the village seen fit to announce Tane and Rumi's succession immediately. News spread fast, too fast. They were sure it would spread to the exams, something that they hoped to avoid for a couple of reasons. As such, the twins dressed as they always did, with their normal clothes tucked away underneath their custom-tailored cloak.

In recent days, they had taken to quiet walks such as these. With the heavy burdens and newfound responsibilities that weighed down on their shoulders, time to think and reflect was often needed. Rumi took the front, allowing her sister's head to rest peacefully from the back of her neck. They walked in silence, each woman with a plate of thoughts to tackle.

During their walk, the twins came across the path of a lone boy. He sat in silence too, looking out towards the park. When they neared the bench, Rumi's footsteps paused, coming to a stop a few feet away. She could see that he was a shinobi, and his age and lack of reputation allowed her to fashion a guess as to his rank: presumably, Genin. "It's been quiet, hasn't it?" She started, looking around at the uninhabited park before turning her attention back to the white-haired boy. "Most of our ninja have gone to the exams."

As the boy sat and enjoyed the quiet isolation he had put him myself into, he could hear a foreign voice addressing him. She also noted the lack of people in the village, attributing it to the exams going on at the moment. Sora would look over to the woman, immediately noticing the extra head behind her. He had heard of the clan where two people share one body, but he had never seen someone who possessed the trait up until now. The way she said ‘our ninja’ seemed to have a bit of authority to it, so he would assume she wasn’t a genin. Thinking this, he would speak respectfully as he looked over and smiled at the women. “Yes, there’s a certain peace that comes with quiet.” The genin would them turn and look into the misty abyss of the park with a small furrow in his brow. “Though things can be a little frightening when it is too quiet don’t you think?” Sora would wait for a response for a second before turning back to the women and gesturing to a spot next to him on the bench. “If you’re not too busy I would love the company.”

It was an interesting interpretation of silence: Quiet, yet sometimes frightening. "A certain peace, yes ..." Tane added in thoughtfully, while Rumi stifled an amused smirk at the latter statement. "A little frightening? I haven't noticed. To me, it's just more of an impending tension." Granted, Rumi had always been the tougher one of the two. To see Rumi fear-stricken was a rare occurrence. The twins had to wonder: what was it that made the boy find fright when surrounded by no sound?

"Sure." Rumi replied nonchalantly, turning to sit herself down beside the boy. Tane, always being the more polite one of the two, offered her thanks as they moved to the seat. Rumi positioned herself on the right side of the bench, sitting up straight to comfortably allow her sister to dangle over the back-end. Lifting up her elbow, she rested it onto the back of the bench, allowing her body to pivot outward ever-so-slightly to face the white-haired boy.

"So, what're you doing out here?" Tane questioned, deciding to instead swerve her head around to the front and share the head space. "Are you here to think, or ..?" The back-end of her question trailed off, leaving an opportunity for him to fill in the blank. Not that many people chose to remain still in the middle of rainfall, even if the droplets were small and spread thin.

The women sat on the bench next to Sora, turning their body to face him as they answered his question and followed up with their own. They seemed to handle themselves with a certain grace that Sora assumed came with having some level of power or authority. The women didn’t seemed unnerved by the silence at all, which was a bit of a relief to the genin. What was he doing here huh? Sora looked up to the cloudy sky with a smile on his face. “I mainly just don’t like being inside. I much prefer being outside where it’s less cramped.” He would then turn to the women and chuckle. “I guess I do my fair share of thinking while I’m out here. What about you? On patrol?”

The white-haired boy seemed fairly laid-back, and his quirky answer beget a soft laugh from Rumi. He didn't enjoy being inside, so he chose instead to sit outside, despite the sky's tears that dripped down? Boy, he must have really hated the indoors, or just not minded getting wet all that much. The twins tried to avoid it where they could, specifically ordering for their cloaks to be made of a more water-resistant material.

The conversation turned towards their reasons for being there. "We're just ..." As soon as she began the answer, both twins knew that Tane wasn't sure how she was going to finish that sentence. A tinge of sadness reflected off of her voice. A quick follow-up from Rumi spared her sister: "It's harder to focus at our home. Out here, it's easier to collect our thoughts so we can get done what we need to do." It was somewhat vague, but she expected it to suffice.

After a moment of silence, the twin spoke again. "I'm Rumi, and this is Tane. And you are?" It didn't matter quite as much when they served as the head of the ANBU division, but with their new status, becoming more familiar with the younger generation wasn't a bad idea.

The twins seemed distracted by something, which made sense due to the nature of their current surroundings. Sora found that most people didn’t share his love for the outdoors to this extent, and would rather be nice and warm inside on a misty day like today. From what one of the women said, it sounded like they were on some sort of mission. What could they possibly be doing out here in the park randomly? With their objective left purposefully vague, the twins introduced themselves as Rumi and Tane.

Happy to have some genuine company, Sora smiled at the ladies and gestured to himself with his right hand. “It’s very nice to meet you two. My name is Sora.” He would purposely withhold his last name, since they had done the same with their own. There wasn’t any malice behind the action, but more of the beginning to a game of intrigue. Sora was interested in whatever mission the twins were on, but knew it would be impolite to directly ask. Although it would seem a bit rude to not formally introduce oneself to a higher ranked shinobi, it wouldn’t be a problem in this scenario. They hadn’t revealed their rank to him after all. Would they ask for his last name and give him theirs? Or would they simply accept his first name and continue their small talk? Meeting new people was so interesting!

"Sora." Tane repeated the word, allowing each syllable to roll off her tongue smoothly. "It's a pleasure to meet you." She bowed her head down slightly. As they settled into a moment of quiet, their ears filled with nothing but the soft pitter-patter of raindrops against the trees, a thought came to Tane's mind. Thankfully, it didn't seem as though he recognized her name at all. What had once been a thing of pride-- being known as the wife of the Kemurikage-- was for the moment a fact she didn't want to have to address. While she had picked herself up from her despair enough to go about her duties, she wasn't yet ready to talk about Saizo without feeling that aching pain pass through her once more.

Truth be told, Rumi disliked these sorts of moments: those awkward moments, interacting with strangers, where you feel compelled to engage in small talk. Normally, she left that to Tane. Rumi was much more straight-forward, and when she talked, it normally was backed by a purpose. With her sister less talkative than normal, she felt obliged to pick up on the slack. And boy, was it hard to figure out what to say. The silence permeated the air for a short while longer before words came to her. "So, uh, you said that you found it frightening when it got too quiet. What makes you think that?" She asked, hoping that the question would make it easier to continue conversing.

The two women didn't seem to be interested in sharing any details about themselves, but were very polite while greeting Sora. He had to admit he was a little disappointed that his game ended prematurely, but he would quickly get past it. There were quite a few seconds of silence that followed her response where she seemed to be uneasy. Rumi followed up with their previous conversation; asking why the quiet can become frightening. "Hmm, I think it stems from fear of the unknown. When there is sound, there is usually some kind of action or substance to focus your attention on. That allows you to know what's happening, or at least to think that you know."

The genin would wait a second before putting a hand on his chin and staring off into the misty park. "When there is silence though, it's easy to become lost in your own thoughts. With nothing to distract you from your own mind, you can begin to stray down dark paths." Sora would smile sheepishly as he turned back to Rumi and Tane. "Sorry, that might not make much sense."

The twins listened to Sora's explanation. The fear came from uncertainty in the unknown, the worry that without noise, the boy didn't know what was going on around him. They couldn't pretend to agree with the idea, however, they could understand it. At the very least, that fear likely made Sora cautious and aware of his surroundings when caught in the silence, which was a good trait to have. "Oh, I see." Rumi responded affirmatively, nodding her head to encourage him to continue.

Then, the conversation took a twist. For a relatively light-hearted boy (or so he gave the impression of), the following comments caught the twins off-guard. Silence led the boy's mind down a dark path. Tane turned her head more directly towards the boy, a look of worry overcoming her face. It was then that her motherly instincts kicked in-- when it came to the younger generation, she was always more protective and empathetic, knowing how easily influenced some could be in their youth.

"Hmm? Is everything alright, Sora?" She slowly extended a hand from Rumi's upper arm. It gently touched upon the sleeve on the boy's shoulder. "You don't have have to apologize. You can explain it to us, if you want. We'll listen." Rumi couldn't help but raise her eyebrows slightly at that. It was almost ironic; here Tane was, inviting another to open up to her, yet Rumi knew that if asked the same thing, Tane would likely try to refuse.

As the young uchiha shared some of his philosophical findings with Tane and Rumi, it had appeared that he had let his guard down. Instead of intrigue or entertainment, the look on the twins’ faces were those of concern. Nervousness rose throughout the genin’s body as their arm reached out to him. As the hand touched his sleeve, the nervousness dissipated and was replaced with a rush of warmth. The maternal feelings from the woman broke through Sora’s mental guard as if it were made of glass. She asked if everything was okay and if he wanted to share anything with her. Sora wasn’t new to these words, but there was a strange sensation in his chest when she had said them. It was as if she actually meant what she said. Did she actually care about this random boy she ran into? Seemed unlikely. With slow movements, Sora would grab his shirt close to his chest, and smile as he answered her. His voice was a little weaker than before, but he would try to present himself as unphased. “It was merely a philosophical hypothesis. I don’t really have too much else to add to the statement.” Now desperate to change the topic in conversation, Sora would avert his eyes from the twins and grasp a little more tightly at his shirt. The normal ease in which he could make conversation had suddenly stuttered and he wasn’t exactly sure why. Did they remind him of his mother? His chest hurt more as he wondered where she had disappeared all of those years ago.

The changes were subtle, but they were there. Something had made Sora uncomfortable in that moment, evident by the averted gaze, the clutching at his clothes. A slight frown molded Tane's lips, accompanied by a small sorrow for causing him to feel that way. The woman allowed her hand to fall slowly off of Sora's shoulder, coming to rest against the cold, metallic bench. Her gaze shifted outward, toward the rest of the park to alleviate some of the pressure from Sora. "Ahh ... I see." Tane allowed those words to stand alone for a few moments while she gathered her next words. "I know what you mean though, about trying to distract yourself from a darker path. Sometimes, it feels like that's all you can do."

Rumi felt a tug at her own heart, knowing how close to home those words really were. To be honest, it was a surprise that her sister could say them with as much composure as she had. "It always helps to have someone nearby in times like those-- someone to remind you that, for every dark path, there is a lit path too. Even if you can't see it yet ... It's there." Having given her advice, Tane allowed for those words to hang in the air. She wouldn't push it farther, knowing that Sora found discomfort in delving too deeply into it.

It seemed as if the meaning behind Sora’s words had shot right through to Tane’s heart; her response was very understanding and kind. She could tell how the thoughts plagued him and offered comfort, while also not pushing him too much. Although he still wasn’t exactly sure who she was, he was grateful for her presence next to him. With a deep breathe and a strong exhale, Sora removed his hand from his shirt and smile as his eyes shifted from the park to the murky sky. “Just like the sky, sometimes our minds can become clouded or even stormy and chaotic huh?” He would pause for a moment before looking over to Tane and Rumi with a new smile on his face. “But there will always be a clear sky eventually. Thanks for listening to me ramble.”

Now that he’d gotten another good sky metaphor off, a heavy burden seemed to be lifted from the Uchiha’s shoulders. He wasn’t usually this depressing. It had to be the severe lack of people in the village. After the twins had responded in whatever way they saw fit, Sora would ask them a lot question with a more serious look on his face. “Mind if I pick your brain for a sec? What would happen to a village if they were attacked during a chuunin exam? I don’t know what it looks like at the other villages, but having so few people within our walls is a bit disconcerting no?”

Tane smiled sweetly when she heard Sora's reply. It extrapolated on her own ideas, extending the metaphor to the clouds above their head. "Right, you got it." She added in, giving a soft nod of her head. "Everyone needs someone to listen to them occasionally. It was nothing." Rumi tossed in, desiring to get back into the conversation after having taken a bit of a back-seat to Tane for a little. Those words of wisdom delivered to the boy seemed to have quelled whatever turmoil had plagued his mind, allowing the topic to spin in a new direction.

Spin as it did, it moved in another direction that Tane and Rumi couldn't have possibly predicted. Their heads inched backward in surprise at what came from Sora's mind. He asked what would happen were a village to be attacked during these exams. The twins' hesitated on their response, looking at the boy's facial expressions to try to determine motive behind the question. "It would be similar in any village. A lot of the high-ranks always feel the need to go watch their team." Rumi started, intending to reassure Sora that Kemurigakure wasn't in any sort of compromised situation. Truthfully, it wasn't something she could guarantee-- with most of their Jounin and Saizo gone, a significant amount of their notable shinobi were absent. Still, that wasn't something to be shared with a child. Instead, she calmly stuck to her decision to avoid it.

"But, don't think that any Kage worth their rank would leave their village unguarded in their absence. Quantity doesn't trump quality." Rumi replied calmly. Truth be told, the more she considered the question, the more uneasy it made her mind feel. Between the intruders at the gates and Saizo's assassination ... Someone was making a move against Kemurigakure. Was there an attack in their future? "... Why do you ask?" She cautiously questioned, wondering what exactly was going through the boy's head.

Rumi took over the conversation; explaining that there wasn't much to worry about since all of the vilalges would be experiencing the same lack of shinobi in their villages. Trying to assure Sora that although multiple people were absent from the village; there were a few particularly powerful shinobi still here. The albino Uchiha hadn't seen any of the jounin he was familiar with around the village, so he was a bit skeptical, but believed the women's statement nonetheless. The calculated way that Rumi answered the question gave Sora a feeling of calm in the storm of his mind. She followed up her answer by questioning Sora's reasoning. The genin would put his right hand behind his head sheepishly before answering with a smile. "I didn't mean to put you on the spot. You just look like you have an important role in the village so I figured you might know."

Sora removed his hand from behind his head and pointed his index finger into the air. "I like to think of pessimistic possibilities as well as optimistic, and the lack of people in the village triggered my mind to think of several worse-case scenarios. But don't worry, there were a couple of really positive scenarios as well!"

The reasoning was a peculiar one-- the boy indulged in thinking of extremely negative and positive scenarios to fit the situations around him. The current emptiness of the village gave rise to those thoughts. It was questionable, but the twins saw no deception from him; the reason seemed genuine enough to earn their trust. "I see." Rumi responded, nodding her head once to accompany it. Out of the corner of the twins' eyes, off in the distance behind Sora's position, a masked ANBU stood in the shadows of another tree, beckoning subtlety for the Kemurikage to approach. Tane and Rumi didn't let their focus rest on the man for too long, quickly moving their eyes along so as to not draw attention to that spot. Without so much as a single hand seal, a clone quietly poofed into existence over in that direction. It turned out to be nothing serious, but something that required Tane and Rumi's attention nonetheless. The clone exited the scene alongside the masked shinobi.

Back at the bench, Rumi opted to probe the boy's brain just a little bit more. "You said there were several positive scenarios as well? What were they? I'd like to hear." She requested, offering a light smile to give off an inviting vibe.

The white haired genin would think for a second about how to phrase his optimistic scenarios. There were far more pessimistic ones, so sifting through all the possibilities in his mind took him a second to compile. "Hmm... Specifically I said there were a couple..." he started saying slowly. Sora would put up his hand as a sort of preventive measure to show that he meant no harm. "I'm not usually a stickler for vocabulary, but I meant to emphasize that there are a significant amount more bad things that could happen than good." The genin lowered his arm and his face shifted into a more serious one.

"It's possible that the team we sent to the exams will have won. They return, and the village celebrates. It's also possible that our team didn't win, but they made a hardy effort and learned from the experience." Sora then sighed briefly before presenting his other hand; signifying the other set of possibilities. "Those options present the power of choice primarily within our hands though. If other nations decided to be hostile during this time..." Sora clenched the hand and put it back on his leg. "Well, its not something we have to worry about right?" A gentle and trusting smile appeared on Sora's face as he finished speaking. He enjoyed speaking to Tane and Rumi. They were good listeners, but also had interesting opinions on the state of the village.

When pressed to expand upon what he meant, Sora added in a qualifier. Apparently, the wording that he had used was very precise, meant to emphasize the difference in the number of scenarios he had thought out on both sides. The positive side was much smaller than the negative, something that resulted in a small frown from the twins. "Well, a few is better than none." Tane added, reassuring Sora that she wouldn't think any less of him for having fewer ideas. The white-haired boy spoke of victory for Kemurigakure's squad, and celebration throughout the village. Surely, they would be pleasant to have occur. Although, Tane and Rumi could see where it was perhaps too optimistic-- while the whole village celebrating sounded like a lot of fun, it was more than a victory at the Chuunin Exams ever got.

"I see ... Whatever happens, always remember that the choice is in your hands. That's part of being a shinobi-- being able to make that choice. The moment you give up on that freedom, that's when you lose." Rumi offered that advice before turning back to look at the skies above. Off in the distance, dark clouds had begun to roll in. Although they hadn't reached yet, they would soon come over the village. Dark skies and heavy downpour: that was what Kemurigakure was familiar with. "Look up there." Tane pointed out after a small duration of silence, extending a hand up towards looming clouds. "It's going to worsen. We probably should be on our way. Don't stay out too long, okay Sora? You wouldn't want to catch a cold." She smiled sweetly as Rumi began to push their body up onto their feet. "It was nice meeting you. Hopefully we meet again soon." "See you later." With that, the twins continued their walk down the road they had originally been going.

The two women seemed to accept Sora's answer, and responded with some wisdom of their own. Rumi reminded the albino Uchiha that he always had the ability of choice and that true freedom came from that. Sora would nod in response to her words; recognizing that freedom was something he wouldn't give up no matter what. Although it wasn't his initial goal, he was a shinobi now, and he would hold onto what that meant to him. Tane pointed out that the storm was going to get worse and the two of them got up to leave. The two of them bid Sora adieu and hoped to see him again soon. "Thanks for sitting with me, I hope to see you two again soon as well." As much as he loved being outside, he didn't really want to get drenched. Sora would get up from the bench and leave to find shelter.
